About
1337 Software
An independent software studio building keyboard-first, privacy-respecting personal productivity tools. Founded and run by Nick Ratliff.
Who we are
1337 Software is a small independent studio — currently one engineer, Nick Ratliff, who designs, builds, ships, and answers the support mail. There is no outsourced support desk and no chatbot in between. If you write to us, you are writing to the person who wrote the code.
The studio exists because the software most of us use every day has drifted toward engagement and away from completion. We build the opposite: tools whose success condition is that you finish and close the tab.
What we believe
- Finishing beats engaging. A tool that gets you to inbox zero and out of the way has done its job.
- Undo, not confirm. Confirmation dialogs punish the ninety-nine correct actions to catch the one mistake. We make actions instant and reversible instead.
- Read broadly, write narrowly. Our software asks for the access a feature genuinely needs and no more — and for the destructive half of that access, we constrain it in code, not in settings.
- Your data is not our product. We do not sell personal data, we do not run ad networks, and we do not train models on your content.
How we build
Work ships in small vertical slices, each one covered by automated tests. Every change passes a full unit, end-to-end, and security suite before it merges, and production releases are a separate, deliberate step rather than an automatic consequence of merging. Small studio, boring process — that is how a one-person shop ships software you can rely on.
